The story is told from the perspective of someone who was born there and lived there for thirty-one years, until the neighborhood was removed in the early 1960s. Today, Death Valley has been replaced with Mill Race Park, lots of green grass, walking trails, picnic shelters making a quiet serene place for the community of Columbus. Still standing in a nice grassy area near the White River is a large tree with a yellow ribbon tied around it which had its roots planted as a small twig several years ago by young Sylvia Wells Worton in her years growing up in Death Valley.
